	Japanese common name: Hinoki. Top-grade lumber. Cypress family. Extends from Fukushima prefecture southward.		Common name: Sugi. Redwood family. Along with Hinoki, this is also a top-quality lumber. Widely distributed from northern Honshu southward. Coast Redwood, Giant Sequoia and Dawn Redwood also belong to the same family. the Taxodiaceae.

	Japanese common name: Nobudo. Vine family. often weedy; bears blue and purple berries in fall; not edible. The distribution range is from Hokkaido to the Ryukyu islands.		Common name:Otokoyozome.A shrub or small tree. A member of the Honeysuckle family. Ranges on the Pacific side of Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu islands.

	Lithocarpus edulist		Vaccinium vitis-idaea
	Common name: Matebashii An evergreen broadleaf belonging to the Beech family; bears acorns larger than those of true oaks. Its native range is southern Japan, though planted across the country. All but one member of this genus grow in Asia; Lithocarpus densiflora (Tanbark Oak) is distributed in California and southern Oregon, USA.		Cowbery, Japanese common name: Kokemomo. An evergreen shrub belonging to the Heath family; grows in or at the edge of the Subalpine forest. The berries are edible.

	Leontopodium japonicum		Tricyrtis hirta
	A species of edelweiss, Japanese common name: usuyukiso. belonging to the Sunflower family, grows on dry rocky soils in the montane zone. Distribution range: Honshu, Kyushu.		Toad Lily, Japanese common name: hototogisu, a shade-loving monocot belonging to the Lily family. The petal-like lobes are white with purple speckles. flowering time: September - October. Distributed from southern Hokkaido to Kyushu.

Grows fast and short-lived, rarely living to be 100 years old.　Beauty and longevity seldom go hand in hand?		A flowering cherry inferred to be a parent (the father) of Cerusus x yedoensis; which is supported by DNA analyses. Bears fragrant white flowers together with young leaves. Original distribution: the Izu islands.
